Finding the Best Call Window: Key Principles

Las Vegas office hours run 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific, Monday to Friday. Casinos and the Strip operate 24/7, but banks, government offices, and most corporate desks keep standard hours. Align your call with that 9-to-5 window and you avoid voicemail.

Two rules govern every calculation:

  1. Las Vegas observes Daylight Saving Time. Pacific Standard Time (PST, UTC-8) runs from the first Sunday of November to the second Sunday of March. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT, UTC-7) runs the rest of the year. The switch happens at 2 AM local time.

  2. Many places do not follow the same DST schedule. India, Japan, and most of Australia do not observe DST at all. The UK and Europe shift on different dates. Offsets change twice a year for some pairs and stay constant for others.

The table at the end gives you the one-number takeaway for each city. The sections below explain why.

Calling Las Vegas From New York and the East Coast

Las Vegas is 3 hours behind New York nearly every day of the year. Both cities observe DST and change clocks on the same dates: the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November. The 3-hour gap is constant.

Book the window: 9 AM to 2 PM Pacific, which is 12 PM to 5 PM Eastern.

Calling before 9 AM Pacific means you reach New York before noon. Early but workable. Calling after 2 PM Pacific pushes past 5 PM Eastern. People are heading out.

The New York Stock Exchange opens at 6:30 AM Las Vegas time and closes at 1 PM Las Vegas time. For a market-related call, use 6:30 AM to 1 PM Pacific.

Two brief exceptions exist during DST transitions. In March, clocks spring forward in Las Vegas one week after they do in some U.S. territories, but New York and Las Vegas change together. The gap stays at 3 hours. Same rule in November.

For a deeper look at the pair, see Las Vegas vs New York Time: 3 Hours Behind, Always.

Calling Las Vegas From Chicago and the Midwest

Chicago is 2 hours ahead of Las Vegas, year-round. Both use DST on the same schedule.

Book the window: 9 AM to 2 PM Pacific, which is 11 AM to 4 PM Central.

A 9 AM Las Vegas call lands at 11 AM in Chicago. Comfortably after the morning rush. A 2 PM Las Vegas call lands at 4 PM Central. Before the typical end of the workday.

Calling Las Vegas From London and the UK

This pair is easy to remember. Las Vegas is 8 hours behind London, and the gap never changes.

The UK uses Greenwich Mean Time (GMT, UTC+0) in winter and British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1) in summer. Las Vegas uses PST (UTC-8) in winter and PDT (UTC-7) in summer. Both shift by one hour on the same principle. The 8-hour offset stays constant.

Book the window: 8 AM Pacific, which is 4 PM in London.

Calling at 8 AM Las Vegas time means you reach London at 4 PM. Late afternoon, still within business hours. Calling at 9 AM Las Vegas means 5 PM London. Works for a quick call but risks catching people on their way out.

Skip calls before 7 AM Pacific (3 PM London) or after11 AM Pacific (7 PM London). The first is too early for a morning meeting in London. The second is after most offices close.

Calling Las Vegas From India

India uses Indian Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30) and does not observe DST. Las Vegas shifts between PST (UTC-8) and PDT (UTC-7). The offset changes twice a year.

  • Winter (PST): Las Vegas is 13.5 hours behind India.
  • Summer (PDT): Las Vegas is 12.5 hours behind India.

Book the window: Las Vegas morning, which is India evening.

Call Las Vegas at8 AM Pacific in winter. It is9:30 PM in India. In summer,8 AM Pacific is8:30 PM in India. This is the sweet spot: India is in the evening after dinner, and Las Vegas is starting the workday.

Calling from India to Las Vegas in the Indian morning is nearly impossible. Indian morning (9 AM IST) is7:30 PM Pacific in winter and8:30 PM Pacific in summer. Both outside Las Vegas business hours.

The half-hour offset (IST is UTC+5:30, not a full hour) adds a wrinkle. For a recurring meeting, the half-hour difference stays constant. Only the hour number changes between summer and winter.

Calling Las Vegas From Japan and Korea

Japan Standard Time (JST, UTC+9) and Korea Standard Time (KST, UTC+9) are identical. Neither country observes DST.

  • Winter (PST): Las Vegas is 17 hours behind Tokyo and Seoul.
  • Summer (PDT): Las Vegas is 16 hours behind.

Book the window: Las Vegas afternoon, which is Tokyo morning the next day.

Call Las Vegas at3 PM Pacific in winter. It is8 AM the next day in Tokyo. In summer,3 PM Pacific is7 AM the next day. This works for a morning catch-up in Tokyo.

Calling from Tokyo to Las Vegas in Tokyo's afternoon lands at2 AM to5 AM Pacific. Useless. The only viable direction is Las Vegas afternoon to Tokyo morning.

Calling Las Vegas From Australia

Australia uses multiple time zones. Sydney (Australian Eastern Standard Time, AEST, UTC+10) is the most common reference point for business.

  • Winter (PST): Las Vegas is 19 hours behind Sydney.
  • Summer (PDT): Las Vegas is 17 hours behind Sydney.

Australia does not observe DST in Queensland, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory, but New South Wales (Sydney), Victoria (Melbourne), and the ACT do. The offset with Sydney changes twice for Las Vegas and twice for Sydney. Four possible combinations.

Book the window: Las Vegas late morning, which is Sydney early morning the next day.

Call Las Vegas at9 AM Pacific in winter. It is6 AM the next day in Sydney. Too early. Call at1 PM Pacific. It is10 AM the next day. That works. In summer,9 AM Pacific is4 AM the next day, and1 PM Pacific is8 AM the next day.

The reliable rule: Las Vegas late morning (10 AM to12 PM Pacific) lands in Sydney's early morning (5 AM to7 AM next day in winter,3 AM to5 AM next day in summer). Works for a brief call but is not ideal.

Calling Las Vegas From Dubai and the Middle East

Dubai uses Gulf Standard Time (GST, UTC+4) year-round. No DST.

  • Winter (PST): Las Vegas is 12 hours behind Dubai.
  • Summer (PDT): Las Vegas is 11 hours behind Dubai.

Book the window:9 AM to11 AM Pacific, which is9 PM to11 PM Dubai in winter, or8 PM to10 PM Dubai in summer.

Call Las Vegas at9 AM Pacific. You reach Dubai at9 PM in winter and8 PM in summer. After work hours in Dubai but before bedtime. Not ideal for a business call, but workable for a quick check-in. If the Dubai contact works late, use8 AM Pacific (8 PM Dubai winter,7 PM Dubai summer).

The Conference Call Golden Hour for U.S. Coasts

When you need both New York and Las Vegas on the line, plus anyone in between, the golden hour is 11 AM Pacific, which is2 PM Eastern.

This lands squarely in the middle of the workday for both coasts. Las Vegas is approaching lunch. New York is past lunch and heading into the afternoon. No one is commuting or eating.

The window runs roughly10 AM to1 PM Pacific (1 PM to4 PM Eastern). Outside this, either the West Coast is too early or the East Coast is too late.

What U.S. Holidays and Major Events Close Las Vegas Offices?

Las Vegas operates on a 24-hour cycle for tourism, but business calls do not.

  • Weekends: Most offices are closed Saturday and Sunday. Do not call for business.
  • U.S. federal holidays: Las Vegas observes all major U.S. holidays. Banks, government offices, and many corporate offices close. The full list for 2026 includes New Year's Day (January1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January19), Washington's Birthday (February16), Memorial Day (May25), Juneteenth National Independence Day (June19), Independence Day (observed July3, actual July4), Labor Day (September7), Columbus Day (October12), Veterans Day (November11), Thanksgiving Day (November26), and Christmas Day (December25).
  • Nevada state holidays: Nevada Day (last Friday in October) and Family Day (the day after Thanksgiving) may affect state government offices. Check with the specific office.
  • Major conventions: CES (early January), SEMA (early November), and other large events can make contacts unavailable even during normal hours. Check if the person you are calling is attending.

For a full list, see United States Public Holidays 2026.

Tools: Using the Las Vegas Time Converter

Do not calculate offsets in your head. Use a time zone converter that handles DST automatically.

The Time Zone Converters page lets you compare Las Vegas with any city. Enter your city and Las Vegas. It shows the current time and the offset. It accounts for DST on both ends.

A common mistake: assuming a city uses the same offset year-round when it does not. The converter catches this. Another mistake: forgetting that India and Japan do not observe DST, so the offset changes when Las Vegas shifts. The converter handles this too.

Keep the converter open when scheduling. One wrong hour can mean a missed connection.
